On July 11th, on a 700 acre potato field in the fifth management area of Keshan Farm, the integrated drip irrigation pipe with water and fertilizer is automatically adjusting the irrigation and fertilization amount according to the growth needs of potatoes, achieving precise management throughout the potato planting process. This cannot be separated from the “help” of modern agricultural machinery. As early as April, the power cultivator of this farm synchronously laid drip irrigation pipes on the land during the top dressing operation, making sufficient preparations for the integrated management of water and fertilizer during the middle tillage period.
Last year, Keshan Farm introduced the country’s first intelligent potato patrol robot. During the field inspection period, more than 20 high-definition cameras throughout the body were used to make the most accurate judgments on potato leaf age, diseases, and pests, providing “customized” solutions, providing scientific guidance for timely potato disease prevention and precise application of pesticides and fertilizers on the farm.
As a demonstration site for the full mechanization of potatoes, Keshan Farm has introduced a group of world-class potato seed management and harvesting machinery in recent years, promoting the implementation of a series of agricultural machinery technologies and achieving the integrated application of spacetime agricultural machinery equipment. From self-propelled potato harvesters and power cultivators to aviation aircraft and drones, to unmanned tractors and intelligent field patrol robots, modern agricultural machinery and equipment have demonstrated their skills in potato planting, field management, harvesting, and land preparation processes, achieving the unity of economic and ecological benefits.
At present, Keshan Farm has over 350 sets of potato seed management and harvesting machinery, with a comprehensive mechanization rate of 99.8% in the field. Relying on modern agricultural machinery and equipment, from 2020 to 2022, planting potatoes on Keshan Farm can save more than 100 yuan in labor costs per acre, and the annual operation time is only 20 days.
Keshan Farm, with a history of nearly 20 years of potato cultivation, has accumulated experience and skills in variety selection and field cultivation during the planting management process. It has extracted the “four advantages and one management” cultivation techniques of excellent potato varieties, cultivation, prevention and control, cultivation, and standardized management throughout the entire process, promoting the continuous optimization of potato varieties, increasing yield, and increasing planting efficiency.
Seeds are the “chips” of agriculture, and the level of starch content determines the economic value of potatoes. Starting from 2020, Keshan Farm and Potato Industry Group’s Seed Potato R&D Center have collaborated to select high starch and high yield seed potatoes. The starch content has increased from 13% to 15%, and by 2023, it will reach 18%. The average yield per mu will gradually increase from 1.4 tons to 2.5 tons.
