On August 21st, we walked into Caihe Agricultural Comprehensive Industrial Park in Caihe Village, Wushan Town, De’an County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. A series of vegetable greenhouses came into view, with the most eye-catching being the glass intelligent constant temperature greenhouse.
Inside the shed, the workers are skillfully arranging the preparatory work required for soilless cultivation of tomatoes. These high-end varieties introduced from other regions require a normal maturity period of 4 to 6 months and have seasonal limitations. However, through a series of measures such as intelligent and controllable drip irrigation that can directly reach the roots and stems, and the use of rock wool that can control nutrient composition to replace soil, they can achieve two months of maturity and can be planted all year round, while also having better taste and appearance. In addition to tomatoes, intelligent greenhouses can also plant strawberries and other leafy vegetables. Through an integrated irrigation system with water and fertilizer and a fan temperature control system, the pulse is accurately “detected”. Different irrigation methods are implemented based on the growth status and required nutrients of crops, and fertilizer nutrients are supplemented in a timely manner, thereby achieving increased production and income. Because we belong to soilless cultivation, we can control temperature, humidity, and light inside the greenhouse, and the taste and color produced are better than those outside, “said Shao Jianping, a smart greenhouse technical operator.
According to Chen Zegui, Secretary of the Party Branch and Village Director of Caihe Village, Caihe Village has a superior natural environment, fertile soil, convenient irrigation, and relatively concentrated available arable land. After conducting preliminary inspections in surrounding counties and cities, the village’s “two committees” believe that the conditions for developing the greenhouse vegetable industry are suitable. However, traditional greenhouse vegetables have problems such as poor air circulation, seasonal greenhouse breaks, and single variety. To address this drawback, The village collective has decided to invest 2.6 million yuan this year to build an intelligent vegetable greenhouse comprehensive industrial park. Unlike in the past, adopting smart agricultural technology can effectively isolate soil borne diseases and underground pests, reduce pesticide use, and ensure the production of healthy and safe agricultural products. It is also possible to continuously plant the same crop on the same land for many years, especially crops such as chili peppers and leafy vegetables, which can also save the labor costs of land preparation and fertilization every year.
At present, a comprehensive industrial park of 9540 square meters has built a smart greenhouse of 2404 square meters, which will be put into use in September. The officially operational smart greenhouse is expected to produce 75 kilograms of vegetables per square meter, which is three times that of regular vegetable greenhouses. The entire industrial park will produce 600000 kilograms of vegetables annually, which can increase the income of the village collective by about 300000 yuan. The smart vegetable greenhouse allows for growing vegetables without seasonal restrictions, and can absorb 30 nearby villagers to work at their doorstep all year round.
