In the midsummer season, the online themed activity “On the Field of Hope – Rural Revitalization Looking at the West” entered Qinglong Village, Dasheng Town, Yubei District, Chongqing. On the 2000 acre orchard slope, the green citrus trees began to turn yellow. This promising citrus forest is located in the first digital unmanned orchard in hilly and mountainous areas in China.
In the park, slender black drip irrigation pipes are arranged neatly along each citrus tree, with 4 drip heads under each tree. Through the drip heads, water and fertilizer are accurately dripped to the roots of the crops, enabling them to better absorb water and nutrients, thereby greatly saving water and fertilizer.
During the hot and dry season, we have implemented an integrated automatic drip irrigation system for water and fertilizer throughout the region, mixing water and organic fertilizer. Through drip irrigation facilities, we can accurately drip irrigation to every tree in each area. This process can be achieved through the platform and mobile app terminals, “said Chen Mingfang, the first secretary of Qinglong Village.
Chen Mingfang introduced that this is a smart agricultural project implemented by Qinglong Village using orchards as a carrier – the unmanned orchard management platform in hilly and mountainous areas. The platform is built in a “1+4” mode, with “1” being a data center and “4” being four major functions: orchard environmental monitoring, precise management, remote monitoring, and intelligent agricultural machinery. It comprehensively integrates three-dimensional model data, environmental data, crop physiological data, and plot attribute data of the plots in the orchard, allowing for early estimation of the yield of each tree fruit, and intelligent analysis and diagnosis through remote sensing feature spectrum analysis, Thus achieving precise management throughout the entire process and improving the efficiency of production management operations.
In recent years, Yubei has taken the development of smart agriculture as an important lever to promote agricultural transformation and upgrading. It has successively built the first primary agricultural product production and sales docking platform in China, the first optoelectronic intelligent agricultural industrialization experimental base in the city, a smart seedling factory, an edible mushroom factory, and the first unmanned orchard in the hilly area in China, among other smart agricultural demonstration bases.
In 2017, Yubei was awarded the title of National Agricultural and Rural Informatization Demonstration Base; In 2019 and 2020, it was rated as an advanced county in the evaluation of national county-level digital agriculture and rural development level for two consecutive years; The Yubei District Urban Characteristic Agriculture Intelligence Project was awarded as the 2019 National County Digital Agriculture and Rural Development Level Evaluation Innovation Project; In 2020, it was rated as a national digital rural pilot area; In 2021, Qinglong Village’s hilly and mountainous digital unmanned orchard was selected as one of the top ten “smart agriculture” selected cases for the intelligent application of big data in Chongqing.
Next, Yubei will continue to deepen agricultural and rural reform, vigorously promote new technologies and equipment for smart agriculture with mountainous characteristics, continuously improve the comprehensive efficiency and competitiveness of agriculture, inject development momentum into the agricultural industry, and promote the effectiveness of rural revitalization work to a new level.
