European Commission official website news on June 3. Between 2011 and 2018, pesticide sales in the EU remained stable at around 360 million kg per year. Four countries, France, Spain, Italy and Germany, account for more than two-thirds of pesticide sales in the EU. These countries are also the main agricultural producers in the EU, accounting for 51% of the EU’s total agricultural area and 49% of the total cultivated area. In terms of the types of pesticides sold, the top sellers in 2018 were fungicides and fungicides (45%), followed by herbicides and moscicides (32%), and insecticides and acaricides (11%) . Of the 14 EU member states for which full data are available from 2011 to 2018, the highest increase in pesticide sales was in Cyprus (+94%), followed by Austria (+53%), France (+39%) and Slovakia (+ 38%). The country with the largest decrease in pesticide sales was Portugal (-43%), followed by Ireland (-28%) and the Czech Republic (-27%).
