China Telecom’s Agricultural Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Helps “Fly” Rural Revitalization

A drone remotely controlled by an operator slowly rises in the farmland of Zhang Wenyan Village, Julu County, Xingtai City, Hebei Province. The drone flew over the corn field to accurately spray pesticides.

At present, it is a critical period for preventing and controlling pests and diseases in corn. This year, nearly 2000 acres of high-yield corn were planted in Zhangwenyan Village. Previously, it took half a month to spray the medicine manually, but now using drones can spray the medicine in a day. “Guo Renpeng, the Party branch secretary of Zhangwenyan Village, and Chen Tongchao, the deputy general manager (in charge) of China Telecom Xingtai Branch, talked about the benefits of drone operation with a smile on their faces and thumbs up.

Compared with traditional manual spraying of pesticides, drone spraying has obvious advantages. Firstly, it has improved efficiency. Traditional manual labor can apply up to 30 acres of pesticides per day, while drones can apply up to 1000 acres of pesticides per day; The second is to save materials, with machine operations spraying pesticides more evenly and covering a wider area, resulting in a nearly 30% reduction in pesticide usage; Thirdly, it is more intelligent, and the flight route and speed of drones can be adjusted according to plant types, weather conditions, etc; The most important thing is to protect the health of farmers and prevent them from being harmed by pesticides. Operators only need to walk around the field with a locator to automatically generate a route, achieving quantitative orientation and precise spraying.

When it comes to the benefits of drones entering farmland, Wang Yingjun, a villager from Zhang Wenyan Village who has obtained a drone operation certificate, is well-known. This has caught up with the good policy of technology supporting rural revitalization. China Telecom’s assistance in rural revitalization with drones has greatly saved time and cost, and improved our work efficiency. In the future, we must constantly learn new technologies, keep up with the pace of the times, and be a qualified new era farmer, “said Wang Yingjun.

Comprehensively promoting rural revitalization and accelerating agricultural modernization construction are the key points of the national work on agriculture, rural areas, and farmers. The key to rural revitalization lies in technological innovation. It is crucial to enable farmers to “liberate” from the heavy traditional labor mode and achieve high-quality development of rural industries. The deep integration of technology and industry is crucial. As a designated support unit of China Telecom Xingtai Branch, Zhang Wenyan Village has used agricultural drones funded by Telecom to provide technological “wings” for rural revitalization, making agricultural drones a “new agricultural tool” in the fields. Farmers who used to carry pesticide buckets and manually spray in the fields have become the “flying hands” of handheld remote control drones operating in the air, efficiently and accurately carrying out planting tasks, improving work efficiency, and becoming a microcosm of agricultural modernization.
