Recently, when we walked into the greenhouse of Gobi Agricultural Industry Demonstration Park in Minzhou Village, Liuhu Town, Yumen City City, the humid air was filled with fresh fruit fragrance, and rows of neat Cherry tomato were growing happily, with numerous fruits hanging all over the branches. “This Cherry tomato variety is called ‘Yellow Roman’. It is yellow after ripening and has a lovely appearance. It is different from the red peanut tomato planted before, which attracts many people to pick and play,” said Xu Aifang, secretary of the party branch of Minzhou Village.
Since 1996, under the construction of Shule River Basin Agricultural Comprehensive Development Project in Gansu Province, Liuhu Town has received and resettled 1390 migrants from Minxian County in Dingxi, 6301 people. On July 18, 2006, the Liuhu Township Government was officially established and the immigrant household registration was transferred to Liuhu. Minzhou Village in Liuhu Town is one of the 19 immigrant villages in Yumen City City. It is a new village built on the bare desert.
At that time, Liuhu Lake was flat and spacious, with exposed sand and soil, and was desolate. The immigrants who came to Liuhu not only had to move, but also had to rebuild from scratch on a vacant land. In 2013, villagers began planting vegetables such as tomatoes, chili peppers, and cowpeas in steel frame arched sheds, and their income steadily increased. How to further increase income and elevate the living standards of villagers to a new level? The village committee has focused on the integration of agriculture and tourism, and how to retain tourists and increase villagers’ income has become a new topic in the village.
The village committee convened a meeting with the villagers, and some people suggested that planting fruits in the greenhouse would lead to half being listed and sold first, while the other half would attract tourists to experience the picking tour in the greenhouse. Therefore, in 2016, the first batch of greenhouses began to plant watermelon, Cherry tomato and other fruits. The villagers have greenhouses Vegetable farming technology, and soon began to plant fruits.
In addition to goat horn honey, Jingxin watermelon and Meisimi melon, Minzhou Village also grows strawberries and Pitaya fruits, which the villagers have never heard of before. How can we plant them well? We have specially hired technical experts to measure the soil. We will first try planting in the experimental shed of the village collective, clarify the field management skills and yield, and then guide the villagers to plant, “said Xia Yu, a resident cadre of Minzhou Village.
Minzhou Village has continued the successful experience of planting vegetable greenhouses in fruit cultivation, implementing unified supply of high-quality varieties, pesticide formulations, and technical guidance. In the future, with the help of agricultural technicians, Minzhou Village will continue to guide villagers to plant various fruit trees, combine with rural tourism, and carry out income increasing projects such as picking gardens, experiencing agriculture, and specialty catering, forming a good industrial chain that combines agriculture and tourism. Xu Aifang stated that he wants to create an upgraded version of Minzhou New Village.
