Rural “Smart” Farming Improves Efficiency and Income

On July 31st, the reporter arrived at the Chaotian pepper planting base of the “unmanned farm” in Dayang Town, Qiaocheng District, Bozhou City. The workers were busy managing the fields, and in front of them were clusters of pepper fruits hanging on the branches. The continuous growth of Chaotian pepper was promising.

The ‘unmanned farm’ in Dayang Town is one of the four ‘unmanned farms’ in Qiaocheng District and is currently undergoing trial operation Lu Xiannian, the person in charge of the “unmanned farm” project in Dayang Town, told reporters that after the official operation, a large amount of work can be completed through remote control, which will greatly save labor costs and improve production efficiency.

‘Unmanned Farms’ are not truly unmanned, but rather fully leverage the advantages of smart agriculture, supported by big data, the Internet of Things, mobile internet, and cloud computing. Through agricultural intelligent equipment, the entire process of agricultural production is achieved with fewer people, precision, and intelligence Lu Xiannian said that currently, 100 acres of Chaotian pepper are planted in the base. In the past, a harvest took 15 workers 7 days to complete. After the intelligent equipment is in place, it only takes 1 machine and 5 workers 4 days to complete.

The “Unmanned Farm” in Dayang Town is located in Guowan Village, covering an area of about 500 acres. It is a demonstration area for wheat pepper intercropping, jointly constructed by Zhongke Perception Company and Qiaocheng District Agricultural Investment Company. The construction period is 3 months and is expected to be officially put into use by the end of August.

The farm mainly grows wheat and chili peppers. In the future, smart platforms can be used to monitor the growth of crops on site, timely watering and fertilization, and promote agricultural efficiency and farmers’ income. “Guo Wan Village Party General Branch Secretary Zhu Congjun told reporters.

In recent years, Qiaocheng District has taken the cultivation of Chaotian pepper as a characteristic and prosperous leading industry, introduced and cultivated new varieties, introduced planting reward and subsidy measures, encouraged the use of various intercropping modes such as wheat intercropping Chaotian pepper, and ensured that the grain planting area and yield are not reduced. Last year, the planting area of Chaotian pepper in this area reached 307000 mu, ranking first in the county level in China, with an average net income of 5000 yuan per mu.

In the future, the entire region will accelerate the construction of modern agricultural facilities, fully leverage the demonstration, leading, driving, and radiation effects of the ‘unmanned farm’ project, and use technology to promote agricultural efficiency and farmers’ income, “the relevant person in charge of the Qiaocheng District Government told reporters.
