Adding “Wisdom” to Agriculture

Spring returns to the earth, and the fields are bustling with busy scenes – tractor after tractor, seeder, seedling raising machine, and plant protection machine shuttle through the fields. As a major grain producing area in China, Hunan is empowering spring plowing with high-tech, accelerating the development of smart agriculture and intelligent agricultural machinery industry chains, and striving to ensure stable grain production. Mechanization throughout the process makes farming easier, and the emergence of smart agriculture has made easy and scientific farming possible.

In Wangcheng District, Changsha City, Hunan Province, there is a “unmanned farm” covering over 200 acres. Here, new technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence are adopted. Staff can remotely control farm facilities with just one mobile phone, and can also allow intelligent equipment and robots to make independent decisions and operations, achieving full automation coverage in the cultivation, planting, management, and harvesting production processes.

In the smart agricultural seedling factory in Heshan District, Yiyang City, Hunan Province, in a modern greenhouse with an area of more than 3000 square meters, plates of seedlings to be planted are full of vitality, and tall circular three-dimensional motion seedling raising equipment alternates up and down, so that seedlings can be fully illuminated, and high-quality machine transplanted seedlings will be provided for more than 10000 mu of paddy fields.

Modern centralized seedling cultivation is not only beneficial for early rice seedlings to avoid the “late spring cold” and improve quality, but also reduces labor intensity and production costs for farmers. From seed soaking and germination, high-speed flow seeding line operations, to chamber stacking and seedling field cultivation, all are large-scale and intensive production methods, saving labor, land, and cost.

In recent years, Hunan Province has successively introduced policies such as the “Thousand Society Project” for agricultural machinery, the “331” mechanism for agricultural machinery promotion services, and creating a highland for the development of smart and intelligent agricultural machinery industry chain. It vigorously promotes the application of new generation technologies such as big data, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence in agriculture, comprehensively improving the level of agricultural modernization, promoting grain production and farmers’ income, and assisting rural revitalization.

In the era of smart agriculture, new agricultural technologies moisten the land like spring rain, and automation and mechanization are liberating farmers’ hands. Unmanned aerial vehicles, rice transplanters, cultivators… Modern agricultural machinery has become the main force in spring plowing, demonstrating their abilities in the fields. These new technologies and changes are not only related to increasing crop income and stabilizing supply, but also gestate new directions and opportunities for the transformation and upgrading of traditional agriculture.
