The current development status of the drone industry

According to the White Paper on general aviation Industry Development released by Aviation Industry Corporation of China, the global civil UAV market in 2021 will exceed 160 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 61.6%, of which industrial UAVs will account for about 60% of the market share.

With the continuous expansion of downstream application fields, the drone market is expected to reach a scale of 500 billion yuan by 2025. It is interesting that with the increase of industrial grade drone applications, the market share of consumer grade drones will gradually decrease. It is expected that by 2025, the industrial grade drone market size will account for more than 80% of the market.

According to statistics from industry regulatory authorities, as of the end of 2021, there are over 1300 civilian drone development enterprises in China, with the vast majority being private enterprises. There are over 10 enterprises with sales exceeding 100 million yuan. At the same time, the number of UAV general aviation enterprises with general aviation business licenses also exceeded 12000.

As the complexity of drones continues to increase, they can perform a wider range of tasks and operate in more challenging environments. This has led to an increasing use of drones in various application fields such as surveying and measurement, inspection and maintenance, search and rescue.

Drones can collect high-quality data and images from various perspectives, becoming a valuable tool in many industries. For example, in agriculture, drones are used to collect data on crop health and growth; In the field of construction, drones are used to monitor engineering progress and identify potential problems; In the field of oil and natural gas, drones are used to inspect pipelines and other infrastructure.

In 2021, the number of registered drones in China’s entire industry reached 832000, an increase of 315000 compared to 2020, with a year-on-year increase of 60.93%. As the number of drone registrations increases, the number of users also increases accordingly. In 2021, the number of registered users of drone owners in the entire industry in China reached 781000, an increase of 223000 compared to 2020 and a year-on-year increase of 39.96%. Among them, individual drone users have accounted for over 85% of the total registered users of drone owners for consecutive years.

With the popularization of drones in various application fields, drones have entered the era of certified employment. In 2021, the number of valid drone driver licenses in China’s entire industry reached 120800, an increase of 31800 compared to 2020, a year-on-year increase of 35.74%.

The final statistical data shows that the flight time of unmanned aerial vehicles participating in the Civil Aviation Administration’s unmanned aerial vehicle cloud exchange system reached 1.83 million hours in 2020, an increase of 580000 hours compared to 2019 and a year-on-year increase of 46.4%. However, the flight time in 2021 was 1.436 million hours, a decrease of 394000 hours compared to 2020 and a year-on-year decrease of 21.53%. Although it has decreased, it is still higher than the same period in 2019. This indicates that after the outbreak of the epidemic in early 2020, the drone operation in 2021 has become normal.
