Anfu, Jiangxi: Plant Protection “Drone” Protection to Stabilize Production and Increase Income

Recently, in the tobacco fields of Lengbian Village, Liaotang Township, Anfu County, Jiangxi Province, the largest tobacco planting area, accompanied by the booming sound, the green “smoke wave” welcomed “aerial visitors” over the sky. Under the command of the staff, four large plant protection drones loaded with biological agents were installed, debugged, and taken off. The huge airflow under the rotor pushed the pesticide mist evenly dispersed, following the set route, The plant protection drone shuttles back and forth for “flight prevention” operations, accurately spraying on tobacco leaves.

At present, it is a critical period for the growth of tobacco leaves. The Tobacco Monopoly Bureau of Anfu County, Jiangxi Province is seizing agricultural opportunities and organizing plant protection drones to carry out pest and disease control operations on tobacco leaves, using technological means to ensure stable production and increased income of tobacco leaves.

It is understood that unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flight prevention can not only achieve human-machine separation and human-drug separation, but also improve work efficiency by requiring a large amount of flight prevention work per drone per day. Through fully self-service GPS positioning, there is basically no phenomenon of repeated spraying or missed spraying of biological agents, which is more efficient, safe, and economical than manual spraying.

“Now the tobacco leaves have grown taller. In the past, we used to carry out pest control on tobacco leaves manually, and each person could only inject five or six acres of medicine every day. Now we have drones to carry out pest control, which saves time and labor,” said Ma Dechun, a tobacco farmer in Yangmen Township.

At present, the Anfu County Tobacco Farmers Cooperative has implemented drone defense in over 20000 acres of tobacco fields in 8 townships such as Liaotang, Yantian, and Yangmen in Anfu County by purchasing third-party services, effectively achieving cost reduction and efficiency increase for tobacco farmers.

Technology is the primary productive force, and we will further promote the use of plant protection drones for the unified prevention and control of tobacco diseases and pests, ensuring the healthy and stable development of the tobacco industry. Li Yachun said that in the future, various measures will be taken to provide support to tobacco farmers from policies, funds, technology, and other aspects, promoting stable tobacco production and increasing farmers’ income.
