Surrounded by green mountains and a lush countryside, the sea cabbage flowers quietly bloom on the contiguous paddy fields. The farmers are busy harvesting sea vegetables, their faces filled with joy of harvest. This is the beautiful rural landscape of Eryuan County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture.
Eryuan County is located at the source of Erhai Lake and plays an important role in the protection and management of Erhai Lake basin. With the in-depth promotion of the comprehensive prevention and control of agricultural non-point source pollution in the Erhai Lake basin, adjusting the agricultural planting structure and cultivating green industries have become the top priority of Eryuan County’s development. In recent years, Eryuan County, based on the actual situation and resource endowment, has deeply promoted the protection and governance of Erhai Lake and the green transformation and upgrading of watershed agriculture. By optimizing varieties, adjusting scale, and improving efficiency, it has actively explored new models for the development of characteristic industries and expanded new space for the development of green agriculture.
At the seaweed planting base in Songqu Village, Yousuo Town, vegetable farmer Li Guocan had just finished harvesting seaweed flowers from his own paddy field and was busy calling on workers to plant a new crop of seaweed. This batch of seaweed seedlings can be harvested after more than 20 days without the need for fertilization or medicine. “Seafood is easy to grow, with small investment and quick results, and has both ecological and economic benefits, Developing large-scale cultivation of seaweed according to local conditions, replacing traditional “big fertilizer and big water” crops such as garlic, and promoting green transformation of agriculture. At the same time, fully leverage the exemplary and leading role of party members, promote the construction of ecological seaweed planting demonstration bases through the model of “party branches+cooperatives+farmers”, guide more farmers to join the team of seaweed planting, and continuously expand characteristic industries.
After years of development, the artificial planting of seaweed in Eryuan County has become a vivid practice of the coordinated development of water quality protection and agricultural green in the Erhai Lake basin. The small seaweed has become a “wealth making dish” that helps rural revitalization, and also provides local villagers with more opportunities to work outside their homes. According to Yang Kesheng, the 208 acre ecological seaweed planting demonstration base of the cooperative employs nearly 5000 people annually, with a labor wage expenditure of nearly 600000 yuan.
Nowadays, Yousuo Town continues to establish its distinctive industrial brand through e-commerce live streaming, helping seafood to move towards the “popular dining table”. The seafood from Songqu Village is not only sold to various parts of the province, but also transported to places such as Shanghai and Hangzhou, receiving widespread praise from consumers. As of now, more than 1500 acres of seaweed have been continuously planted in Songqu Village, Yousuo Town, with an annual output value of over 18 million yuan.
