Tomatoes turn red, farmers are busy harvesting

Currently, it is the season for tomato harvest, and over 10000 acres of open field tomatoes in Jingtai County are gradually maturing, ushering in a busy harvest period.

Entering the outdoor tomato planting base in Badaoquan Village, Caowotan Town, among the rows of green vines, mature tomatoes protrude one by one, bright red and juicy, very tempting. Tourists Zhao Rui and Auntie from Tianshui, holding small buckets, shuttle between the vine leaves, excitedly picking tomatoes.

Tourist Zhao Rui: I came from Tianshui, Gansu. The tomatoes here taste very delicious, and the sandy land is sweet, which tastes better than the tomatoes in Tianshui. Because the tomatoes in Tianshui are in the shed, they may not be well sunburned here, so we pulled a cart here and prepared to take them back to Tianshui to eat.

This year, more than 5000 acres of open field tomatoes were planted in Badaoquan Village. Farmers seized the opportunity to harvest tomatoes, and the fields were filled with the joy of a bountiful harvest.

Shen Zhengrong, a villager from Badaoquan Village: I planted ten acres of tomatoes this year, and from the current growth situation, it is very good. The production capacity per acre has reached over 20000 kilograms. Our tomatoes have a good taste and luster, and are highly favored by various merchants.

Niu Anji, Director of the Agriculture and Rural Comprehensive Service Center in Caowotan Town: In order to sell and promote our tomatoes, we actively cooperate with foreign merchants to purchase tomatoes in our town. We use some idle resources such as Liehushan Primary School and farmyard to clean up and provide free use for foreign merchants and workers. The first floor of the Tomato Industry Service Center has been temporarily converted into a restaurant, providing catering convenience for merchants and workers. At the same time, we promote our Badaoquan brand tomatoes through various media platforms, gradually increasing brand awareness and increasing industrial added value.

In recent years, Jingtai County has adhered to the characteristic planting industry as an important way to develop the rural economy and increase farmers’ income. Based on its natural and geographical advantages, it has made every effort to create a highly distinctive advantageous planting industry, promoting the scale, standardization, and branding development of characteristic agriculture, and laying a solid foundation for achieving rural revitalization.
