Drone prevention and control of diseases and pests

At present, all corn has entered the flowering and pollination period, which is a critical period for yield formation and a high incidence period for pests such as corn borers and cotton bollworms. In order to ensure the normal growth of corn in the later stage, various regions in Heze City actively carry out green prevention and control work for drone release of natural enemy insects, laying a solid foundation for autumn grain yield and harvest.

In the sky above the corn field in Nanwangdian Town, Dingtao District, two plant protection drones loaded with brown card balls rose into the air, shuttle back and forth over the corn field, and scatter card balls one by one on the corn field. Agricultural technology experts introduce that this small card ball contains the “elite” in the field of biological control – the red eye bee.

Zhang Wei, an agricultural technology promotion researcher at the Agricultural and Rural Bureau of Dingtao District, said, “This is the first time in our district that biological control has been carried out on corn fields. After the eggs of Trichogramma insects hatch into Trichogramma, they lay eggs on the pests. The main purpose of this is to capture food from the insects, which can effectively kill them. At the same time, it also prevents pests from developing drug resistance. It is safe for humans and animals, and environmentally friendly.

The corn borer is the main culprit causing damage to corn grains, seriously affecting corn yield and quality. This year, Dingtao District took the lead in administering drugs to plots with high disease incidence rates in the past. This “pest control” method can minimize the base of pests in the middle and later stages of corn, reduce the intensity of pesticide use, and lead the local food to develop green, high-quality, and efficient.

Juancheng County has implemented a demonstration and promotion of drone release of Trichogramma to control corn pests in Fenghuang Town and Hongchuan Town, covering an area of 2000 acres. Agricultural technology experts carefully inspect the growth of corn while operating with drones, explain the precautions for scientific management of corn in the later stage to the public, guide farmers to carry out the “one prevention, two reduction” unified prevention and control operation, and lay a solid foundation for autumn grain yield and harvest.

Wang Wei, Director of the Agricultural Technology Promotion Center of Juancheng County, said, “We will solidly promote green prevention and control, strengthen unified prevention and control, carry out pesticide reduction and efficiency enhancement, ensure food safety production, improve the quality and safety of agricultural products and agricultural ecological safety, and create a new exploration and important measure of ‘modern agricultural county’.
