In Taojiang County, Hunan Province, the “hometown of bamboo”, locusts have already developed flight capabilities and entered a period of migration, mating, and spawning, which is also a period of large-scale disasters. In recent days, forestry technicians from the Agricultural Comprehensive Service Center in Majitang Town, Taojiang County, Hunan Province have personally visited the front line to guide Nanshan Village in using drones for rice pesticide to kill locusts.
Compared to manual powder spraying and spraying operations on the ground, drones are equipped with high-definition cameras that can detect affected bamboo forests from the air, thus achieving more accurate spraying operations. At the same time, the drone can add over 40 kilograms of medicine at a time, and the operating area can reach over 200 acres in one day, which increases the efficiency of manual operations on the ground by 4-5 times. The cost-effectiveness and locust control effect of artificial methods are very significant.
Nanshan Village, Majitang Town, Taojiang County is a national demonstration village of “one village, one product”. It has over 6200 acres of bamboo forest, over 300 acres of high-yield bamboo shoot forest base, and an annual processing capacity of 2 million kilograms of fresh bamboo shoots. The bamboo shoot industry is the village’s advantageous industry. In order to minimize the locust disaster, in addition to using drones to control locusts, the village also organized seven villagers to join the team of forest guards in the village by relying on the work platform of the forest leader system. Every day, the village increased the patrol and protection of bamboo forests, devoted itself to forest protection and pest prevention, and continued to carry out locust control through various methods such as uremic trapping and spray control.
