Smart greenhouse crops are not afraid of “roasting” and experiencing constant temperature growth

At a temperature of 19.6 ℃, humidity of 88, and carbon dioxide concentration of 668, the edible mushroom ‘air conditioning greenhouse’ is operating normally. At around 10:00 am on August 14th, the outdoor temperature was already too hot to stand, while the temperature was suitable in the edible mushroom factory of Weinong Seedlings Co., Ltd. in Dongxihu District. Technical personnel Huang Quan is monitoring real-time data in the greenhouse in front of the central control desk, using a digital planting system to accurately control temperature, light, moisture, etc.

The summer in Wuhan is a “baking” experience for many crops. However, with the development of facility agriculture, more and more crops are living in “air-conditioned rooms” with constant temperature throughout the year. Under digital and intelligent management, even in hot summers, they can enjoy the most suitable environment for growth.

At the entrance of the edible mushroom greenhouse in the Weinong seedling base, you can feel the cool air emanating from the greenhouse, which is in stark contrast to the 36 ℃ high temperature outside. Entering the greenhouse, rows of mushroom bags were neatly placed on the shelves, and the staff were picking mature flat mushrooms and elm yellow mushrooms and transporting them out one basket after another.

The production of edible mushrooms this summer is nearing its end, and it is expected to produce 200000 kilograms of mushrooms throughout the summer, with a total output value exceeding one million yuan, “said Yang Pei, the production manager of the Weinong Base. In order to meet market demand and achieve annual production of edible mushrooms, in 2022, the Weinong Base invested more than 2.8 million yuan to build 7 “air-conditioned greenhouses” that can cultivate 100000 mushroom rods at the same time. Currently, all of them have been put into use.

Edible mushrooms are generally planted in the autumn and winter seasons, and the growth environment should not exceed 30 ℃. If the temperature is too high, the mycelium will die and cannot produce mushrooms. “Huang Quan, a technician at the Weinong Base, introduced that underground water pipes are laid under each of the” air conditioning greenhouses “of Weinong’s edible mushrooms, and the underground water circulates through the pipes to achieve cooling effect. Air ducts are installed under the roof of the greenhouses to ensure the oxygen demand of the edible mushrooms through air circulation. At the same time, the top of the greenhouse uses three layers of insulation membrane material, effectively blocking the high temperature infiltration in summer.

Next to each “air-conditioned greenhouse”, there is an independent center console, and there is a complete digital planting system inside the greenhouse. Through sensors, the data information inside the greenhouse is presented in real-time on a smart screen. If the humidity is below 85, the atomization device inside the greenhouse will automatically start working, every 10 minutes, to replenish water for the growth of edible mushrooms until it meets the standard. “Huang Quan said,” Currently, the ‘air-conditioned greenhouse’ has achieved 24-hour full digital intelligent monitoring and automated management, with only regular monitoring of various digital indicators every day, greatly saving labor costs.

Through the digital planting system, the quality of edible mushrooms in the “air-conditioned greenhouse” of the Weinong base is stable and the supply is in short supply. Our edible mushrooms are mainly sold locally in Wuhan and are mainly supplied to hotels and restaurants, which are very scarce. “Yang Pei said,” Although the cultivation cost of ‘air-conditioned greenhouses’ is relatively high, compared to other mushroom varieties, the prices of our edible mushrooms such as oyster mushrooms and elm yellow mushrooms are still much lower. The retail price of oyster mushrooms is about 5 yuan/jin, and the retail price of elm yellow mushrooms is about 10 yuan/jin

It is understood that in addition to common edible mushrooms such as mushroom and elm yellow mushroom, rare mushrooms such as deer antler ganoderma and agaric are also cultivated in the Weinong base, which can be used for both consumption and medicine. In recent years, the edible fungus industry of the Weinong Base has relied on the technical team of Academician Li Yu of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the International Joint Research Center for the Creation of New Germplasm Resources of Edible Fungi. The focus has been on precision breeding demonstration, cultivation technology demonstration, deep processing technology demonstration, and other aspects to build a demonstration base for the integration of the three industries of edible and medicinal mushrooms in the East West Lake region. It has achieved the production of fresh edible mushrooms throughout the year.
