On August 18th, Liangping District, Chongqing, known as the “Bashu Grain Warehouse”, held a high-yield rice cultivation and yield testing acceptance meeting. The Science and Technology Education Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs organized relevant experts to conduct yield testing and acceptance of the locally grown new rice variety “Weiliang Youyuzhan”.
Weiliang Youyuzhan “was selected by Yuan Longping Agricultural High tech Co., Ltd., Hunan Longping High tech Seed Science Research Institute Co., Ltd., and Hunan Yahua Seed Science Research Institute. It has strong growth potential, high temperature resistance, lodging resistance, and excellent rice quality, making it an excellent variety that can increase farmers’ production and income.
The demonstration field for this production test covers an area of 101 acres. Rice was sown on March 10th, transplanted on April 7th, and matured on August 18th. The expert group conducted yield testing and acceptance based on the yield testing method recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs for super rice, and randomly selected three fields to be harvested with harvesters. After removing impurities and moisture at a moisture content of 13.5%, the final yield of rice was determined to be an average yield of 864.1 kilograms per mu.
The people of Duliang alone have no hardship, they must have sunny days and rainy days. As early as 800 years ago, poet Lu You of the Southern Song Dynasty depicted the harmonious scene of abundant resources and people in Liangping using the ancient poem “Inscription of the Ruifeng Pavilion of the Liangshan Army”. It is understood that Liangping has 720000 acres of fertile land, which is a traditional agricultural region and has been known as the “granary of Bashu” since ancient times. In recent years, the local government has vigorously implemented the “Millennium Good Farmland” project and the seed industry revitalization action, focusing on promoting the construction of high standard farmland and the appropriate mechanization transformation.
