In recent years, vegetable greenhouses have been constantly iteratively upgraded, and the small soil greenhouses of the past have become the “cloud greenhouses” of the intelligent Internet of Things. Now when you enter the new shed, you can see the intelligent numerical control equipment such as roller shutter controller, spray system, water fertilizer all-in-one machine. The temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide concentration and other data in the shed are uploaded in real time, and the mobile phone APP can be operated remotely. My father always said that I was in time for the planting shed.
Technology empowers greenhouse planting, which is an important reason for attracting me to invest in facility agriculture. Fertilization, pesticide configuration, and daily management can be completed through intelligent equipment. Smart digital greenhouse, equipped with facilities such as cold storage and cold chain logistics, makes planting a greenhouse easier. I have put more effort into variety cultivation, marketing, and technical learning. The ‘old farmers’ have rich experience in vegetable preferences and how to use medicine and fertilizer. I often consult them and learn a lot of housekeeping skills. I also hire them as the’ administrators’ and ‘technicians’ of the farm.
Since the 1990s, Shouguang has been extensively planting facility vegetables. Now, the technology of vegetable greenhouses has developed to the seventh generation, with an annual output of 4.5 million tons and a per capita output of over 4 tons, which is nearly 8 times the national average. Nowadays, more and more “second generation greenhouses” are taking on the backbone of facility agriculture. Young people who dare to think and work are injecting new ideas and vitality into the development of modern agriculture.
Taking over the baton from their parents, the ‘New Farmers’ ran faster and farther. I am full of anticipation and longing for the future, and I am actively participating in the exploration of the transformation and upgrading of the facility vegetable industry. Now, I have driven more than 200 growers from 4 surrounding villages to sell vegetables such as bitter gourds, eggplants, and cucumbers through the logistics channels of family farms to large-scale supermarkets in Shanghai, Liaoning, and other places. At the same time, a production workshop for bitter gourd tea, a vegetable processing and sorting workshop, and a constant temperature storage warehouse have been constructed to establish a production chain of “bitter gourd planting, bitter gourd purification, and bitter gourd by-products”, driving more farmers to increase their income and become rich.
