“Drone” flight defense operation to safeguard food safety

I planted over 6 acres of corn this year, and it is now a critical period to prevent southern rust. However, the corn in the field grows tall and dense, making it inconvenient for manual spraying. It is really timely for the village to carry out free and unified flight prevention operations, which has solved our troubles. Recently, Zhang Zhijie, a corn grower in Xizhangzhuang Village, Dawu Town, Anguo City, Hebei Province, said happily as he watched the scene of the flight prevention operation.At present, corn growth is in the filling stage, which is a critical period for corn yield formation and a period of high incidence of diseases and pests. Recently, there have been multiple occurrences of heavy rainfall in Anguo City, and the climate conditions are very conducive to the spread of southern rust disease in corn, posing a serious threat to autumn grain yield and harvest. In order to effectively carry out the prevention and control of diseases and pests mainly caused by southern rust disease of corn, and strive to achieve high yield and harvest in autumn, in recent days, Anguo City has organized agricultural technicians to go to the countryside for inspections and implemented flight prevention operations, actively carrying out unified prevention and control, and safeguarding food security.

We have specially organized a deployment meeting for southern rust prevention and control in various townships, ensuring that no villages or plots are missed. We have also organized agricultural technicians to conduct routine inspections of southern rust on corn in each township to ensure full coverage. On August 29th, we discovered the first southern rust disease strain of corn in Dongwuzhuang Village, Dawu Town. In response to this result, we immediately took action and carried out flight control operations on all 400 acres of corn fields in the village Wu Yongjun, Deputy Director of the Agriculture and Rural Bureau of Anguo City, said.

To ensure the effectiveness of flight prevention, the Agriculture and Rural Bureau of Anguo City has led the establishment of five flight prevention operation supervision groups. Before conducting flight prevention operations, each supervision team carefully checks whether the type, content, and control objects of the pesticides used for flight prevention are consistent with the requirements of the prevention and control plan. And during the entire operation process, track and supervise the drone’s flight altitude, speed, and spraying range, with a focus on monitoring the technical specifications, to ensure that there is no leakage or re spraying, and strive to achieve the best prevention and control effect in the shortest possible time. At present, the city has organized 20 drones for unified prevention and control, covering an area of nearly 60000 acres.

In order to facilitate the villages, towns and farmers to better identify and control southern corn rust, and prevent the occurrence of southern corn rust, agricultural technicians distinguish southern corn rust from common rust, leaf spot, brown spot and other symptoms, and make clear paper. At the same time, through WeChat official account, loudspeaker broadcast and other forms, they publicized the hazards and symptoms of southern corn rust to ensure a high yield and harvest of autumn crops.
