Vegetable Industry Helps Rural Revitalization

At present, the cabbage in Shuobei Tibetan Township, Datong County has ushered in a bumper harvest season. Looking around, the eyes were lush and beautiful, and the villagers were busy harvesting cabbage, filled with the joy of a bountiful harvest.

Wang Deming, the person in charge of the Deming Planting Professional Cooperative in Datong County, said, “Our outdoor vegetables in Datong have a good taste, high fiber content, and strong taste, which are very popular in major markets across the country. This year, our cooperative has planted nearly 800 acres of vegetables, including 360 acres of cabbage, which produces about 8000 kilograms per mu. Our cabbage is mainly sold to Xi’an, Ningxia, Gansu, Guangzhou, Fujian, Shanghai, and other places.

In recent years, Shuobei Tibetan Township in Datong County has taken the cultivation of vegetables in the fields as a characteristic industry to adjust industrial structure and promote farmers’ income growth and prosperity. It has transformed the advantages of production areas into tangible industrial advantages and development momentum, continuously strengthening the collective economy, and comprehensively promoting the revitalization of rural industries.

Similarly, the organic chrysanthemum planted in Jingyang Town, Datong County has also ushered in the harvest season. Entering the Sujiabao Small Arched Shed Vegetable Planting Base in Jingyang Town, a bustling scene came into sight – the villagers skillfully picked, sorted, and transported the chrysanthemum in the field, bringing joy to the harvest. After weighing, refrigeration, and packaging, Jingyang’s chrysanthemum was sold to Xi’an, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and other places in the afternoon of the same day.

Rural revitalization and industrial prosperity are the key. In 2021, Jingyang Town, relying on its resource advantages, actively innovated its agricultural development model, continuously optimized its industrial structure, introduced Shandong Shouguang Xinze Co., Ltd., transferred more than 2000 acres of land from Tuguan Village, Sujiabao Village, and Ganshuwan Village to plant chrysanthemum, and made a chapter in the “small arch shed” economy. Gradually, it developed a planting industry mainly based on chrysanthemum, driving people to increase income and wealth, adding new vitality to rural revitalization.

Tong Shouqi, Secretary of the Party Branch of Sujiabao Village in Jingyang Town, told reporters that by transferring land, the villagers have lower risks and higher profits, making it particularly convenient to work nearby. Nowadays, this industry has become one of the important channels for local villagers to increase their income.
