Agricultural mechanization creates a picturesque scene of “abundance”

Recently, the 2023 Grain Crop (Rice) Machine Harvest Reduction Skills Competition in Guizhou Province was held in Guanghuai Village, Wangcao Town, Suiyang County. Mechanized harvesting is of great help to agriculture, as it saves time and effort, and has a low scattering rate. From traditional manual harvesting to efficient agricultural machinery operations, the level of agricultural mechanization in our county has been continuously improving. In 2022, a total of more than 2 million yuan in project funds and self raised funds from society were integrated to install 43 mechanical equipment such as sowing and covering machines, self-propelled rice paddling and seedling raising machines, and harvesters. More than 100 large combine harvesters in the county were put into rice harvesting and loss reduction operations, and more than 100000 acres of rice were harvested, saving more than 2.5 million yuan in harvesting costs for benefiting farmers, Each harvester generates over 50000 yuan in revenue for the operator.

Similarly, in recent days, at various sorghum planting demonstration bases in Zhengchang Town, harvesters have shuttled back and forth, swallowing the red sorghum ears and spitting out crushed straw, harvesting and threshing them in one go. In a moment, the plump sorghum grains tilted down the harvester pipe and filled the transfer truck.

This year is my fourth year of developing the sorghum industry. In the first two years, I used manual harvesting to harvest over 80 acres of sorghum, which requires nearly 100 workers, which is both time-consuming and expensive. Since last year, I started using machine harvesting, and one machine can harvest over 80 acres of sorghum every day. We use three harvesters to work simultaneously, and all the grains can be returned to the warehouse in two days. “Speaking of the assistance of mechanization, Huo Huachao, the head of the Zunyi Huode Zhuangaoliang Planting Farmers’ Professional Cooperative, praised it repeatedly.

Mechanical harvesting can improve work efficiency, save costs, and help to seize agricultural time. At the same time, it can also directly return straw to the field, laying the foundation for subsequent planting and achieving efficient rotation. In 2022, our county continuously promoted the comprehensive recycling and utilization of straw silage feed processing, straw crushing and returning to the field. The county collected 6878 tons of straw, processed and sold 5606.6 tons of feed, and the comprehensive utilization rate of straw reached 90.38%.
