Pork tastes so good, why can’t it taste like it used to?

When we were little, we loved pork. It’s really delicious. I only like fat meat. When the butcher comes to the village, they are willing to be fat. They don’t need much seasoning, just oil and salt. It tastes great.

But now even with a lot of condiments, but the taste is like chewing a candle, not fragrant at all. It is hard to find the taste of childhood, even when eating pork freshly killed by farmers. Why can’t pork taste like it used to?

The first is that the variety of pork has changed: today’s pigs are basically good breeds bred through crossbreeding. The outstanding advantage of these pigs is that they grow meat quickly and sell quickly, making them suitable for large-scale industrial farming. The “outer Sanyuan” pork we often hear is a fine breed of foreign hybrids.

In the past, the economy was so poor that commodities like meat, eggs and fish had little value from production to sale. Most families can only eat some meat during the Spring Festival, and they rarely eat meat all year round. Therefore, smelling fishy will make you happy and taste delicious with meat.

Now, there are many kinds of non-staple food and daily necessities. Life is getting boring. In addition, from a health point of view, most people stay away from meat products to prevent “three highs”. Therefore, in the past, eating meat made me feel more delicious. Now, it has no taste.

Feeding methods have changed: pigs can now be sold in just over three months. In the past, pigs had to be kept for a year; Now the pigs are fed a scientifically proportioned diet, and the pigs in the pen are responsible for eating, sleeping and growing meat; In the past, pigs were basically hogweed and grain, raised for more than a year. There will naturally be a big difference in taste between pork that has been bred for a short time and pork that has been bred for a long time.

In the past, farmers raised pigs on simple feed. It took about a year for one or two pigs to emerge from the trough, most of them weighing less than 200kg. Due to the long breeding period, the meat is tender and delicious. Now, special feed is used. With lots of additives, pigs get fat quickly. Over a period of six to seven months, pigs weigh more than 300 jin. In addition, it is a kind of large-scale farming, so the meat quality is poor and the taste is not good.

Nowadays, agricultural products cannot do without chemical fertilizers, and the grain quality is poor. The feed of the pigs that eat these grains is also one of the reasons the pork doesn’t taste good! Forty years ago, pigs ate rice bran, grass bran, rice washing water and wild vegetables. They were raised for over a year. At that time, very little fertilizer was used in food production. Although the grain yield is low, the quality is high! The rice is delicious! So you know why pork doesn’t taste good anymore!

Tastes have also changed: people now eat meat for nothing. Meat-loving family members like me can hardly live without meat. No matter how good the food is, they are tired of eating it every day. In the 1980s, the family ate meat for ten days and half a month, which may not have been enough. Of course, the taste was different. If you don’t eat meat for half a year, and then eat a meal, it is estimated that even today’s pork can make you feel special flavor.

Although it’s hard to taste 1980s pork these days, you can try a locally grown pig. The meat will taste a little different, but it will taste a lot better than the feed pigs on the market.

Today’s pork is not as sweet as in the 1980s. In addition to the variety and feeding methods, the most important thing is that people’s living standards have been improved. Eating meat is also very common, and naturally it will not come out of the taste before.
