Xue Tuo, a large grain farmer in Chang ‘an District, Xi ‘an, led the establishment of Changfeng Agricultural Machinery Professional Cooperative in 2008 to explore land trustee-transfer, introduce modern agricultural machinery and equipment, and cultivate grain intensively, on a large scale and in a professional way. Xue Tuo and Changfeng Agricultural Machinery Cooperative provide a living example for promoting the development of modern agriculture and ensuring food security. Xue Tuo, 64 years old, lives in Zhongfengdian Village, Doumen Street, Chang ‘an District, Xi ‘an, Guanzhong Plain.

Xue has done many “crab eating” things: buying plant protection drones, building plant protection bases, building UAV runways, buying imported large tractors, establishing UAV college…

Winter wheat is grown in Guanzhong. Farmers sow in autumn, irrigate in winter, pipe in spring and harvest in summer. Early in the morning of May 4, Xue led the team to Shenhe Yuan, for the cooperative trust of wheat. Wheat has just entered the flowering and filling period, it is the most important time for pest control.
Some pull water, some spray… Everyone has a clear division of labor. After the arrangement of work, in fact, Lao Xue can do nothing, but he still do not rest assured, nor idle down. He had a job for himself: to make sure that every wheat plant was sprayed.
Lao Xue has planted the land for more than 40 years, and he knows all about it. He could tell from the distance of the ruts on the machine whether the spray was in place. He kept walking up and down the field, observing, and now and then making signs and Shouting to the farmer. Lao Xue took everyone, a day to complete more than 1000 acres of wheat spraying task.
In the first few years of the cooperative, a person could not finish more than 50 mu of land a day by spraying medicine on his back. The cooperative bought more than 200 medicine buckets alone. In 2010, the cooperative managed and transferred 30,000 mu of land. In spring, one or two hundred people are busy for more than a month, from mid-late March to early May.
At the beginning of 2012, Xue accidentally read the news and learned that the drone could inject medicine, working four or five hundred mu a day. He was impressed: a single drone could support more than a dozen men. He was so excited that he won a plant protection drone with a price of more than 200,000 yuan.
That spring, the drone was an eye-opener, working more than 500 acres a day. A lot of people come here just to see how the drone works. Everyone gave Old Xue a thumbs up.
At the end of 2013, the cooperative built an agricultural plant protection base covering an area of 200 mu, and also built a UAV runway. Later, it bought more than 20 drones.
With the increasing use of drones, Xue felt there were not enough drones and pilots in busy agricultural seasons, so he wanted to do drone training. In late 2020, the cooperative opened its drone training academy.
After the announcement, the registration phone was flooded. Yuyang District of Yulin City thought agricultural machinery farmer professional cooperative leader Siyaoguo, sent two batches of 8 people, not far from Yulin to Xi ‘an to study.
The college has trained more than 100 people. In Xi ‘an, Baoji, Xianyang, Tongchuan, Weinan, Yulin there are college trained flying hand. When needed, Lao Xue called a “command” and called around 30 or 40 pilots with drones to come to “coordinate operations” is no problem.
Old Xue said, before medicine, one mu of land labor cost 10 yuan, 30,000 mu of land to spend 300 thousand yuan, busy for more than a month. Now there are drones, dosing machine, more than ten days busy. More than 20 agricultural pilots in the cooperative are also drone pilots, each of whom earns more than 6,000 yuan a month, or more than 100,000 yuan a month in total.

Entering May, the weather in Xi ‘an is getting hotter and hotter. At noon, the temperature in the wheat field was nearly 30℃, and the sun made people’s eyes ache. His dark face was dripping with beads of sweat, which gradually gathered and trickled down his cheeks and into the soil, where they became fertilizer for the wheat.
Suddenly looked from a distance, the figure of Old Xue is like a stone pillar frozen in the wheat field.
Old Xue carried the medicine bucket, drove the cattle, pulled the trolley… He knows the hardships of farm work. Therefore, he has a persistent pursuit of all kinds of new agricultural machinery and implements. In 2016, Xue thought about buying a tractor again.
In June of that year, old Xue had been running on the road, taking hard-seat trains, sleeping in small hotels, from Xi ‘an city to Weinan city, then to Xianyang city, then to Luoyang city, Henan Province……
The more he looked, the bigger his appetite grew. Originally, he planned to spend two or three hundred thousand yuan to buy a 150 horsepower tractor; In the end, he bought three imported large tractors with 210 horsepower and supporting farm tools for 3 million yuan.

Xue’s wife and daughter, as well as the other members of the cooperative, were shocked, but no one could overcome Xue.

In recent years, the cooperative has purchased more than 150 large and medium-sized agricultural machinery (sets), with a total value of more than 12 million yuan. It has also set up four professional service teams for agricultural machinery, agricultural technology, plant protection and hydropower, and hired six professors from Northwest A&F University as technical advisers.

Every time he sees these “old friends”, Xue recalls the hard days before — June, under the hot sun, holding a sickle to cut wheat, milling; Dog days, braving the heat, wearing a coat, corn watering, fertilization; Winter, braving the cold, while the rain and snow weather, to fertilize wheat……
The cooperative bought the first plant protection drone, has not been used for years, but Mr. Xue has been keeping it. Every once in a while, he would wipe it. “This is an epoch-making agricultural machine, and it will be the treasure of the future agricultural machinery museum.” Sheffield said.

After the wheat entered the stage of flowering and filling, Old Xue estimated the yield every time he went to the wheat field. He went a little way from one end to the other, and then he pulled out a head of wheat and counted the grains carefully.
After he counted them, Xue would pinch them, even peel them out, put them in his mouth and chew them to see if they were full.
