In recent years, Xiaoxu Town, Wuhe County, Bengbu City, Anhui Province, relying on the local water resources advantages, has introduced aquatic vegetable planting technology, which has good economic and ecological benefits. At the same time, it has driven the employment of surrounding farmers, increased the income of the village collective economy, made it a new growth point for farmers to increase income and a characteristic industry to enrich the people, and helped rural revitalization.
When I came to Yangxiaofeng Aquatic Cabbage Breeding Base in Zhaowei Village, Xiaoxu Town, Wuhe County, Anhui Province, I saw that the base adopted a three-dimensional planting and breeding model, growing vegetables on water and fish under water. Aquatic vegetables rely on the absorption of nitrogen, phosphorus and other eutrophic substances in the water, so as to achieve vegetable planting without fertilization and pesticide use, while purifying water quality, reducing the incidence rate of aquaculture, and forming a fish vegetable symbiosis system.
When Yang Xiaofeng, the owner of the base, met, Yang Xiaofeng was leading the workers to excitedly pick water spinach in the paddy field. “Hollow vegetables are grown in water without any fertilizer, absorb nutrients from the water, and grow quickly and tender.” Villager Yang Xiaofeng told me that she has planted 20 acres of hollow vegetables this year. Now is the centralized listing period for water spinach, and the base can pick around 1000 pounds every day. Vegetable merchants can directly come to the market to purchase without worrying about sales. Nowadays, water spinach is still rare in the market, and the purchase price can be sold for 4 yuan per kilogram. “Yang Xiaofeng happily calculated for me that the picking period of water spinach lasts from May to October, and one acre of land can collect about 1500 jin. Based on an average price of 4 yuan, the annual income is over 100000 yuan.
To ensure the freshness of vegetables, the picked water spinach needs to be packaged, boxed, and transported as soon as possible. Yang Xiaofeng’s family is understaffed, so villagers are hired from the village. This not only accelerates the harvesting process, but also drives local villagers to increase their income. A villager who was packing water spinach said, “I’m too old to travel far. It’s great to have such ready made work in the village.
In recent years, Xiaowei Town has continuously guided farmers to adjust their planting structure, develop characteristic vegetable industries, achieve dual harvests of economic and ecological benefits, and drive more people to increase income and become rich, relying on its superior natural environment and abundant land resources with sufficient water and fertilizer. Xiaowei Town continues to increase its efforts in promoting and providing technical services for characteristic planting, actively organizing agricultural technology training, and providing various forms of technical guidance to help farmers solve practical problems encountered in production. At the same time, efforts will be made to build an agricultural industry chain that integrates production, acquisition, storage, and sales, create distinctive vegetable brands, cultivate farmers’ market awareness, and promote sustained agricultural efficiency and steady income growth for farmers.
